Man travelling 186kph in Melbourne was ‘hurrying to get cheeseburger’

A man who was caught driving at 186 kilometres per hour in Melbourne’s west has told police he was in a hurry to get a burger.

Victoria Police said the 28-year-old from Tarneit was pulled over on the Princes Freeway in Laverton just after 2:00am.

He was clocked travelling at 186 kilometres per hour in a 100kph zone, police said.

When he was pulled over by police he told the officers he was in a hurry to buy “a triple cheeseburger”.

Police said the officers were “less than impressed by the excuse”.

“Brimbank Highway Patrol officers could have been forgiven for thinking they were looking at a low-flying plane when they spotted the 28-year-old’s Proton hatch flying down the Princess freeway at 2.14am,” Victoria Police said.

The man’s car was impounded and he was expected to be charged with speeding and driving while suspended, police said.
