A commuter has been praised after she stood up to a woman verbally abusing a Muslim family sat opposite her on public transport.
Stacey Eden, 23, described hearing the middle-aged woman bad mouthing Muslims and calling a woman sitting opposite her an Isis supporter because she was wearing a hijab.
Posting a short video of the incident on Facebook, she wrote: ‘People who are so ignorant and disrespectful to other people who were clearly sitting there minding their own business.
‘She was saying some pretty horrible and hurtful things before I spoke up then as soon as I started defending them she stopped.’
The passenger mentioned various Islamic State atrocities, but Stacey asked her what the Muslim family had to do with them. The woman answered ‘nothing’.
Stacey then told the woman to shut her mouth adding ‘you’ve got nothing nice to say, don’t say anything, simple’.
The incident happened as the couple got on a train at Sydney International Airport.
